Acupuncture is the strategic insertion of very fine needles into points on the body’s surface for the purpose of stimulating healing. This practice is performed to promote healthy circulation.
Health history, followed by a few clarifying questions, the taking of your pulse on the wrist and a look at your tongue, will assist us in reaching the diagnoses of your ‘pattern’.
This pattern, is then addressed with one or a combination of treatments.
Herbal Medicine We use the products of our environment to correct the imbalances within ourselves. It’s holistic and effective. However hot, cold, damp, dry or stagnant we become, nature provides a (combination of) substance appropriately cooling, heating, drying, nourishing or invigorating.
Massage is an essential part of Chinese Medicine, often critical in determining the correct diagnoses. It is quite strong and stimulating.
Moxabustion (Moxa) developed right alongside Acupuncture, the two are often used together. Moxa is a treatment method most often employed when & where there is cold in the body, the heat generated from burning this herb (artemisia vulgaris) promotes healing, the smoke is anti-bacterial. It is used to great effect on conditions such as sore arthritic joints (which are worse in cold weather), certain skin conditions, recovery from injury, fatigue and turning breech babies to name a few!
Cupping, is used frequently to complement acupuncture. Cups placed at various points on the body stimulate and generate movement of blood. The skin is the body’s largest organ, it has rich circulation and clears toxins quickly and efficiently.
Gua Sha breaks up solidifying waste products hiding in subcutaneous tissue, leaving these impurities in a state where excretion via perspiration or by reintroduction to the bloodstream for excretion by the liver and kidneys is the result.
Diet, let food be thy medicine, what you do with your body and what you put into it are obviously crucial factors to consider for long term health. At HCM you will learn how you need to eat to help correct your complaint and stay healthy.
Exercise, many of us are accustomed to doing less exercise than we should. Our bodies grow weaker faster, lacking the nutrition and the conditioning that contribute to a balanced life. At HCM we will unlock the energy and motivation required to create great habits.
